I have found the Ashtanga Yoga classes to be really good supplement to my main sporting activity – cycling – which is notorious for doing very little to maintain core strength and general flexibility. My back now performs much better on long all-day rides, and my breathing feels more controlled. I am also a coeliac (gluten allergy) and I suffer from some gastro-intestinal problems from time to time, but I believe that the abdominal exercises and stretching have improved my condition.
I still find some of the positions very hard, limited mostly by my lack of flexibility around the hips, but even that is improving. At first I found the 2 hour sessions to be very long but now feel more comfortable. I find the atmosphere in the class to be very calm but friendly.
